Kaikoura Unplugged... Day 4 & 5

4th Oct 2019

This busy week has come to a close...

Thursday bought Rockets, UFO's and Aliens to the Kaikoura Library, and a gardening afternoon at Te Ha O Matauranga - getting the garden all ready for spring!

Friday was a jam-packed day of fun and dancing. In the morning Marz ran Music and Movement at the South Bay Domain, followed by a Whanau photoshoot! 🎵😃📸
The Kaikoura Scouthall was filled all afternoon, with back to back discos for pre-schoolers, primary aged children and a Youth Blast for highschool aged youth.
At Youth Blast we were treated to some fabulous musical items by Theo, Jade and Te Po - they were brilliant! 🎤🎸😍

Kaikoura Unplugged...Day 3

Wow what a full on day. Toni Batey ran golf at the Kaikoura Golf Club for families in the morning, following that was Golf Croquet at the Croquet club. Then a Teddy Bears Picnic and sausage sizzle at Kaikoura Playcentre. The Kaikoura library ran star making AND there was a sports afternoon at Kaikoura Primary school! We are so thankful to all the different people and community groups that are contributing their time and energy to make this week chocka full of fun activities. Thankyou everyone!!

Highschool Maths Tutoring

5th Sep 2019

The lovely Emma and Zachary have been offering their expertise in maths to support other students struggling to grasp some tricky concepts brought up in the NCEA maths curriculum.

This ongoing tutoring group has been a fabulous way for students to catch up on some difficult maths problems - sometimes its easier to understand concepts when they are explained in other  'young people words'... solving quadratic equations anyone?

Partnership in Action!

21st Jun 2019

We have the priviledge to work with many youth in our day to day mahi at Te Hā o Mātauranga. One of the really inspiring parts of our work is coordinating the Kaikōura Youth Council.

Kaikōura District Council values a youth voice in all decision making. KDC therefore funds a Youth Coordinator role to manage and assist Kaikōura Youth Council with day to day running of the group, as well as events and activities.

This role is currently contracted to Te Hā o Mātauranga – Learning in Kaikōura. Community Development at Council works with the Youth Coordinator to ensure youth voice is well represented in decision making and Council matters.

To get in touch with the Youth Coordinator, email Vicki or give her a call on 027 564 8407
To get in touch with Community Development, email Kim or give her a call on 0277 268 349
