We run a variety of youth development programmes...
Youth Council
We are employed by Kaikōura District Council to coordinate the Kaikōura Youth Council. The Kaikōura youth council is a group of young people, open to 12 - 24 yr olds. KYC runs events for others in the community, such as the bienniel Kaikōura Youth Awards, and activities during Youth Week in May each year. They also have representatives on community groups and trusts, in order to ensure youth voice is present in the decisions that are made for our community. Their main goal is for Kaikōura youth to be optimistic, confident and make valued contributions. They meet fortnightly at either Te Hā O Mātauranga, 14 Ludstone Road or the Kaikōura District Council chambers. For more information about KYC visit their website: kaikourayouthcouncil.org.nz. To get in touch email kkyouthcouncil@gmail.com or get in touch with their coordinator; Petra Jellyman on 027 201 7638, or email admin@kaikoura.link

Outdoor Leadership Programme
We have developed two new Outdoor Leadership Programmes in 2025.
The first programme - funded through Tū Manawa - gives young people the opportunity to become either a Rafting Leader, Camping/Bushcraft Leader or Marine Activity Leader. Taking groups of young people on raft trips, camps etc and training them to help support other young people to take part in these activities!
The other programme - funded through Ministry of Youth Development - is designed to compliment these skills, developing a depth of knowledge in different outdoor skills and knowledge, and giving young people an understanding of how to plan and excecute camps and other outdoor activities. These programmes are running from late 2025-early 2026. For more information please get in touch with Sarah on 027 807 2874.
Friday Hangouts
We run an afterschool hangout at the Scout Hall a few times a term from 3.30pm-5pm for young people years 7-10. We run a variety of activities, from art days, to game nights to beach afternoons!
We also have a 16+ hangout at Te Hā from 5pm-7pm once a month - a chance for young people to connect in a low stakes, positive environment.
Previously we have run Lateral Youth for our local young people... below is a video of some of the fun we got up to!
