We have a big blank wall outside Te Hā...

We are teaming up with Matt Moriarty from Canyon Creative to create a new and exciting mural for our wall - and we want your help! We are asking for young people with an interest in graphic design or art or anyone with a keen eye to come along to a workshop to put together a design for the mural. More info will be released later in the month - if you are interested or want to know more then get in touch :)

Street Theatre Performance

6th Jan 2020

Music, dance, tableaus, statues, mime, clowning, gymnastics, slam poetry... anything goes in street theatre!

We are running a series of workshops from 13th Jan, to plan a trail of performances along the West End during the last weekend of January. All youth, aged 12 - 24 are welcome to take part! You may have an idea or a talent for a performance, or come along and we can inspire you!

We are aiming for 4 small group performances and each group will have a budget of $250 - we are hoping this will be both a creative adventure and a way to make some money through busking!

Come to our first workshop on Monday 13th January, 1pm or contact Sarah on 027 807 2874

20th Dec 2019

This was our final whānau evening last week, for maths group - the tamariki all made games to play with their whānau and then we had a shared kai. We've had a fun year, playing all kinds of maths games ~ Merry Christmas and see you all next year!

KYC Camp

17th Dec 2019

Kaikoura Youth Council finished up the year with a camp in Clarence!

We wound Kaikōura Youth Council up this year with a camp at Clarence - we went hunting, swimming, rafting, played Settlers of Catan, talked to a NCTIR engineer about the road construction, and just generally chilled out after a busy year. A massive thanks to all our youth council members - you've put in a huge year! Not everyone could make it on camp and some of you have come and gone a bit, but we value every one of you and appreciate your input into making Kaikōura a place where youth are optimistic, confident and make valued contributions.

Under water videoing

10th Dec 2019

Exploring South Bay marine environment in a totally new way...

What a great weekend we had at the Underwater Videography workshop. An awesome group of 15 rangatahi joined us to explore the underwater world at South Bay, learning film and camera techniques for both story telling and data collection, as well as a plethora of marine science info.
A massive thanks to Sharyn Goldstien from KnowledgeAble Communities who masterminded the weekend, and to Steve Jensen for technical and back up support. As well, thanks to Adele More, our local underwater documentary expert and to Dan Crossett and Robyn Dunmore from Cawthron Institute who brought cameras and expertise of a marine research nature! And finally a huge thank you to Takahanga Marae for hosting us and all the yummy food!

Defensive driving courses...

17th Oct 2019

Mike from AA has been back at it again - taking on a local group to put through a defensive driving course. Completeing your defensive driving course eqiups you with skills to handle yourself safely on the road in all sorts of situations - and it takes 6 months wait time off your restrictive license to get you onto your full licence sooner. Well worth signing up for :)

Kaikoura Unplugged... Day 4 & 5

4th Oct 2019

This busy week has come to a close...

Thursday bought Rockets, UFO's and Aliens to the Kaikoura Library, and a gardening afternoon at Te Ha O Matauranga - getting the garden all ready for spring!

Friday was a jam-packed day of fun and dancing. In the morning Marz ran Music and Movement at the South Bay Domain, followed by a Whanau photoshoot! 🎵😃📸
The Kaikoura Scouthall was filled all afternoon, with back to back discos for pre-schoolers, primary aged children and a Youth Blast for highschool aged youth.
At Youth Blast we were treated to some fabulous musical items by Theo, Jade and Te Po - they were brilliant! 🎤🎸😍
